South Africa (SA) recorded 6, 706 Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, one of the highest in many weeks since the relaxation of its control measures. Dr. Zweli Mkhize, South Africa HealthMinister, officially declares the second wave of coronavirus in the country. 

The number of Covid-19 related deaths as of today are 135, thus pushing the total to 22, 574 overall. The latest infections took the total numbers to 828, 598.

The four provinces at the center of the coronavirus current resurgence are West Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The Minister has been warning about laxed behaviour among the citizens. Quite recently, high recorded cases have been spurred by superspreader events like “Rage parties” associated with farewell gatherings by school leavers.

Furthermore, Dr. Mkhize advised responsible behaviour during the Christmas holiday season with increased interprovincial expected to rise.
