Mamelodi Sundowns defeated the stubborn AmaZulu FC in a game that saw seven breathtaking goals at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane on Sunday.
In a drizzling Pretoria afternoon, Lehlohonolo Majoro fired the visitors ahead in the first 15 minutes from kick off. Four minutes later, Sundowns restored parity through Themba Zwane.
It took merely 11 minutes for the ever scintillating Zwane to bang 2-quick goals to elevate the home side to a commanding position, thus completing his hat-trick.
It is mesmerizing performances like these which won him three accolades, including “Player of the Season”, in the 2019/2020 edition in the Premier Soccer League tournaments.
Sundowns were on the driving seat on a 3-1 just within 30 minutes of the first half. AmaZulu tried to claw back with Luvuyo Memela’s effort to make it 3-2 in the last 45 minutes of the league clash.
However, Peter Shalulile reinstated the 2-goal cushion (4-2) for the host. Sandile Khumalo had the last say with the third goal for AmaZulu, sending the encounter to a nail-biting finish. The league draw ended 4-3 in favour of the defending champion.
Sundowns’ victory retains them pole position on the log with 10 points after 4 games. Meanwhile, AmaZulu are 12th with four points after the equal number of matches played so far.
