Fugitive Sheppard and Mary Bushiri are in custody in Lilongwe, Malawi. They handed themselves over on Wednesday. The couple on the run was at it again when armed police raided their house on Tuesday night in Lilongwe to no avail, reported AFP.

After taking themselves to the Malawian authorities, it is widely reported that they have moved an application for bail.

The Bushiris skipped South Africa where they were charged with fraud, theft and money-laundering, effectively revoking their bail. How the so-called “pastor” and his wife fled the country is still a mystery.

A warrant of arrest released by SA planted a red alert at International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) forced Malawi police to prevail upon the runaway husband and wife.

At the same time, Pretoria High Court issued what will be a second warrant of arrest coming out of South Africa for the Malawians.

At national level, diplomatic talks are underway to resolve the escape by the Bushiri family from South Africa with their country of birth. Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi said this falls under the purview of the Minister of International Relations and Cooporation, Dr. Naledi Pandor.
