One of the biggest matches of the weekend featured Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. A month ago, Chiefs surrendered the league title to their cross-town rivals, Sundowns.

On Saturday, Chiefs were annihilated by 3 effective goals without a say. A score margin rarely associated with once the shining stars of South African football. Not any more.

New acquisition Peter Shalulile nodded home the first of three goals in the first half on his debut league game in Sundowns colours. In the socong half, another new arrival, Kermit Erasmus, echoed his co-striker with a flat drive into Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune’s goal to make it 2-0. Amakhosi were disoriented.

But, the Brazilians were not done yet. Coming in from the bench, former Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka was brought down by Khune when he tried to round him off in the box. Themba Zwane put the final nail in Amakhosi coffin when he sent Khune the wrong way from a spot kick.

With Sundowns having posted 3-0 up on the scoreboard, there was no coming back for Chiefs. And that is how the cracker of the week-game ended.

The Brazilians secured three valuable points away from home. As such, they are perched on top of the league by a good goal different.
