It was not the best of endings last season for Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaiser Chiefs. But now it is the ideal start to the new one with wins for both football clubs.
Celtic eliminated the indomitable Mamelodi Sundowns by 1-0 in the MTN8 Cup quarterfinals at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Attridgeville, Pretoria, on Sunday.
Sundowns squandered many chances in the game. Equally, Celtic goalkeeper James Mabogwane is unbeatable even though they were playing away. Nevertheless, Bloemfontein Celtic had to defend almost 90 minutes to be sure of a spot in the MTN8 Cup semifinals.
Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 Maritzburg United
In the earlier quarterfinal, Chiefs came from behind to deliver a knockout blow to Maritzburg at FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg.
The travelers could not take advantage of their dominance in the first half of the MTN8 Cup match but emerged with a goal. In the second half, Chiefs looked a totally different team altogether. They secured their berth in the MTN8 Cup semifinals by scoring two (2) successive goals.
