South Africa Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has been diagnosed with Covid-19 and is quarantining at home.

His wife too, Dr. May Mkh ize has come second best to the pandemic and was admitted in hospital for medical observation.

“I wish to inform the public that this afternoon my wife, Dr May Mkhize and I have tested positive for COVID-19,” the Minister said. He announced that the results came out positive on Saturday after “showing mild symptoms”.

On Sunday, 1,662 new infections for Covid-19 and 63 deaths were reported. The accumulative number of Covid-19 stands at 793,793 and 18,471 dead people.

Over 40 million cases and 1,1 million deaths have been recorded worldwide. The United States of America (USA) accounts for 20% of infections and lost lives as a result of coronavirus.

Meanwhile in Africa, Covid-19 related cases are over 1.6 million and nearly 40,000 deaths. It is estimated that SA represents 46% of the total deaths and 43% of the cases in Africa.

While the USA took a huge blow of the pandemic to date, SA is the hardest hit country in Africa. Accordingly, Dr. Zweli Mkhize advised all South African to take all precautions and protect themselves for fear of a second wave.
