Former Bosasa (now African Global Operations) chief operating officer Angelo Agrizzi has been rushed to a government hospital to receive medical attention after his health deteriorated in custody just a day after he was denied bail. 

His lawyer had argued that his client’s health condition was such that it did not require him to be kept in custody. Speaking to eTV, Daniel Witz, Agrizzi’s attorney, said that his client was already showing some symptoms of respiratory health scare.

On the bail which was turned down in Palm Ridge magistrate court on Wednesday, Agrizzi indicated that he will appeal the decision.

The magistrate advanced that Angelo Agrizzi failed to declare all his business dealings and assets. As such, he was deemed a flight risk.

Agrizzi stands accused of paying bribes estimated at R800, 000 to former Member of Parliament (MP) Vincent Smith.

While Smith defended that these payments were a result of loan arrangements, the prosecuting authority contends that these were proceeds of corruption. The erstwhile MP is fighting for his life out of jail too. He is out on a R30, 00 bail.

Both Agrizzi and Smith gave evidence as witnesses to the sitting State Capture Commission chaired by Deputy Chief Raymond Zondo. Former was critical to the commission and now he is state’s case/s.
