Portugal captain and Juventus star striker Christiano Ronaldo has been diagnosed with coronavirus, his country’s football association confirmed on Tuesday.
Ronaldo will sit out the Wednesday clash when Portugal host the struggling Sweden in the UEFA Nations League (UNL) in Lisbon. Sweden lost 2-1 to Croatia over the last weekend.
Nevertheless, this fixture will go ahead as all the Portuguese players have tested negative even though they were in the same camp with the talented Ronaldo. Matter of factly, he featured on Portugal’s goalless draw against France on Sunday Oct. 11.
Ronaldo has since left the national team camp and is quarantining in line with Covid-19 standard protocols.
