Steve Komphela has left Lamontville Golden Arrows Football Club (FC) as its head coach a few days before the new 2020/21 season starts.

In his resignation letter posted by award-winning journalist Thabiso Sithole, Komphela intimated that he is joining Mamelodi Sundowns FC as a “Senior Coach”. 

Sundowns were left high and dry by the multi-trophy-winning head coach Pitso Mosimane who was lured by Egyptian giant Al Ahly Sporting Club.

His assistant coaches, Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena were subsequently pronounced joint-head coaches by the Sundowns management, with the former assuming seniority where potential conflict would arise between them.

It is not clear how Komphela’s senior coach role mean for the incumbents at the reigning league champions. Be that as it may, the club statement read:

“His role will be the First Team Senior Coach and will report to the joint head coaches.”

However, Mngqithi and Mokwena are still very much part of the Mamelodi Sundowns glittering fold. To this end, Komphela’s statement hinted that he will “work with” the pair.

It appears the ever ambitious Komphela is ecstatic to be part of the Pretoria club. In his October 11 announcement statement posted by Sithole, he said: “I look forward to this exciting and hope to contribute to the group and success of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa and on the African Continent”.
