Last week, Premier Soccer League (PSL) revealed one its closely guarded secrets in football administration yet.
PSL Chairman Irvin Khoza officially unveiled DStv as the new title sponsor for the domestic elite league.
The sponsorship spans a 5-year period. It swings into the fray after Absa did not renew its partnership with PSL at the end of the 2019/20 season.
DStv is a familiar brand not only in sport in South Africa but is well-known through Africa as a media giant in the satellite and online television industry.
The subscriber channel is a subsidiary of the media behemoth MultiChoice Group.
PSL will hold another media briefing to announce the start of the new (2020/21) on Wednesday, September 30.
Of interest will be the stance on the return or no return of fans in the stadia. Towards the end of the 2019/20 season, PSL was suspended for over four (4) months due to Covid-19 global outbreak. Upon its resumption, the remaining games we completed in a controlled “bio-bubble” environment in Gauteng province.
Though financial demanding, this concentrated focal arrangement worked out well for a few weeks. It will also be fascinating how the permutations for the new league edition will pan out in the midst of coronavirus.
