Thursday | September 10, 2020

Dis-Chem Pharmacy and Makro are the latest retailers to pull TRESemmé brands off their shelves.

TRESemmé is suffering from a racist advert published on Clicks website portraying black women’s hair as “dry and damaged” and white woman’s hair as “normal”.

There was an eruption of public fury that culminated into nationwide protests triggered by the offensive advert.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) mobilised against the brand and picketed at Clicks outlets in South Africa (SA).

Clicks was first to drop the TRESemmé products off the stores. Shoprite Group, Pick n Pay, Woolworths followed to remove the products.

Initially, Uniliver, TRESemmé brand custodian, issued an apology to this end.

EFF has reached an agreement with Uniliver. The producer will withdraw all TRESemmé brands for 10 days from all outlets in SA.
