Soaring Covid-19 infections after 100 days of lockdown

South Africa recorded 10, 856 Covid-19 cases and 74 number of deaths on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

Yesterday’s announced deaths occurred in two provinces: the West Cape (WC) with 43 and Eastern Cape (EC) reporting 31.

After 1, 792 078 tests, SA’s has a cumulative 187, 977 Covid-19 infections currently and 3, 026 deaths to date. There are 91, 227 recovered patients.

Gauteng accounts for 31.6% (59, 373) of the overall cases and 9.13% (282) deaths. There is an explosion of reported coronavirus cases in this most populous province in South Africa. The situation is about to turn for the worst.

As coronavirus incidents increase, Gauteng is expected to surpass the WC sitting at 36.4% (68, 376) of all cases.

The West Cape’s proportion of death toll stands at a staggering 66.95% (2, 026). In comparison, Gauteng has the lowest Covid-19 related deaths though.

EC accounts for 18.2% (34, 161) of all coronavirus infections and, 16.19% (490), second to the WC, in the country.
