The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has a player who has contracted coronavirus..

Ben Motshwari, 29, has been diagnosed with coronavirus after testing positive, confirmed Orlando Pirates Football Club. 

In their official statement, Pirates stated that:

“Ben was presented with flu like symptoms last week and after undergoing tests, his results have come back positive. The player is asymptomatic and is currently in-home isolation for the next 14 days. He will need to test negative before he is cleared.”

The PSL has not resumed play since South Africa began the nationwide shutdowns towards the end of March 2020. The domestic elite league was suspended on March 16 and administors have been pondering how best to complete the remaining matches of the season.

It is understood that Motshwari is the first professional league player in SA to test positive to the Covid-19 pandemic. In line with scores of supporters, well-wishers and PSL clubs, Bidvest Wits Football Club posted through its Twitter account @BidvestWits that:

It is still uncertain when will football resume to see off the 2019/2020 Absa Premiership season.
