With almost 50% proportion of Covid-19 cases, the Gauteng Province is teetering on the brink of becoming the epicenter of the novel coronavirus pandemic in South Africa (SA).
On Sunday Mar. 22, SA confirmed 34 new positive Covid-19 cases.
According to Dr. Zweli Mkhize, the Minister of Health, the latest cases of coronavirus take the total to 274.
Gauteng accounts for 48% of these. Second is the Western Cape on 32% and KwaZulu-Natal 13% share of the overall SA tally of the pandemic.
Should this pattern persists, people in Gauteng could be in a greater risk of contracting the highly infectious disease.

The province represents 25.8% (i.e. 15 176 116 of the 58 775 022), Statistics South Africa “2019 mid-year population estimates” shows.
