Highly hyped-up Mamelodi Sundowns desperately need three clear goals to reach the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League (CL). A stern challenge interspersed with unbridled pessimism from their detractors.

Sundowns lockhorns with Al Ahly in the continent’s premium competition at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, this (Saturday) afternoon.

The epic CAF CL second-leg match between Sundowns and Al Ahly will start at 15h00 – South African Time (SAT).

Unfortunately, Sundowns lost 2-0 in the first-leg away (to Al Ahly) in Egypt last Saturday Feb. 29, 2020. Today they need a flat 3-0 victory.

Importantly, this titanic face-off with Al Ahly is a do or die battle for one of the South African decorated and accomplished football club. Worse still, a margin of one goal will not be enough for Sundowns, neither three goals will suffice should the Egyptian giants score an away goal.

Al Ahly just need a draw or not lose by three clear goals against their SA counterparts. The team that loses on aggregate gets eliminated and that will mark the end of the road for that club in this 2019/20 edition of the most fancied showpiece in Africa.

CAF CL Achievements and Head-to-head

Al Ahly have won the Africa’s elite football trophy a record eight (8) times while Sundowns were crowned only once in 2016.

Al Ahly defeated Sundowns three times in their last five games while the former won one and (both) drew one game. Incredibly, Sundowns inflicted the heaviest blow [5-0] to Al Ahly in that 5-match period.
