ST Galaxy FC failed to shine Wednesday (Feb. 05) night when Chippa United FC blew their lights off at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth (PE).
The 2019 champions were eliminated in the first round of the Nedbank Cup by a whopping three (3) flat goals without reply. Galaxy held their own against a premier division side for over an hour before they buckled under pressure.
In the second half of the midweek cup game, men were separated from boys with the Chilli Boys showing their mettle. A volley of goals followed.
Last year, the second-tier [National First Division] league stars stunned the football fraternity when they beat Kaizer Chiefs FC by a (mere) late goal to nothing in the Nedbank Cup final staged at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The late (penalty) cup-clincher goal shocked the Soweto giants extremely.
The Chill Boys had to wait for the 74th minute to get a buffer goal last night. On the 89th minute, it was lights-out for the Mpumalanga-based club when Chidi Kwem secured his second.
Both teams went to the break goalless. The first goal that dimmed the Galaxies and finally broke the deadlock was slotted in by Ruzaigh Gamildien on the 64th minute.
