Spanish giant Barcelona Football Club has axed Ernesto Valverde and enlisted the services of Quique Setién Tuesday Jan. 14, 2020.
Setién, a Spaniard, succeeds his compatriot until 2022 at the Calatan club. According to Bostjan Cernensek writing for SBNATION:
“The man from Cantabria in the north of Spain comes to Barça after having had spells at Racing Santander, Poli Ejido, Logroñés, Lugo, Las Palmas and Betis, his previous club in the 2018/19 season.”
Valverde has been at the helm of one of the enviably successful team in world football since May 2017. Among his milestones, he guided Barcelona to a back-to-back La Liga championship in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.
