Tuesday night league fixtures saw Orlando Pirates hammer Polokwane City in Polokwane convincingly. Stellenbosch FC were beaten at home by Bloemfontein Celtic. Notwithstanding the hype behind the clash of the titans in Pretoria, it only produced a dull goalless draw between Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits.
Not often do Orlando Pirates win games convincingly in recent fixtures, and do so emphatically. The Buccaneers did the damage on the first half of Absa Premiership league match.
Last tonight they stole Polokwane City’s thunder by pounding them by a 4-1 score margin at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. A massive rare victory.
It took five minutes for Gabadinho Mhango to put Pirates’ in front. On 14th minute, he had doubled the lead. From there, it was a one-way traffic in Limpopo. Mhango was not done yet. He stamped his hat-trick on the 36th minute.
Ben Motshwari’s [45+1′] knock-out strike separated men from boys and Pirates were sailing smoothly on 4-0. There was no coming back. Nevertheless, the Rise And Shine got their consolation goal on the 64th minute through Mohammed Anas. With the debilitating 4-1 on the scoreboard, City had seen enough when the last whistle of the match sounded.
Sundowns 0-0 Wits
Mamelodi Sundowns blew a chance of collecting maximum points against a 10-man Bidvest Wits at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria Tuesday night.
Both Sundowns and Wits are in contention to close the gap at the top of the log where Kaizer Chiefs on 35 points notched up in 15 matches.
The Brazilians are now three (3) points within touch after 16 matches while Wits are eight (8) points behind after 13 league games.
Stellenbosch FC 1-2 Bloemfontein Celtic
Down in Cape Town, Celtic worsened Stellenbosch’s woes by sinking them 2-1 at Cape Town Stadium last night.
Merely three (3) into the league game, Ryan Moon gave the host a positive head-start. The match went into half-time with both Stellies leading 1-0.
