Kaizer Chiefs crown their 50th anniversary with a ruthless performance to prevail over Highlands Park at FNB Stadium in Soweto, south of Johannesburg last night.

The reasonable rowdy crowd that descended under the Soweto night lights to celebrate with Chiefs got the better of Highlands Park. They sat back nearly the entire match soaking up unbearable pressure from the psyched-up log leaders.

On the 27th minute, Eric Mathoho got the Amakhosi show going with a spectacular scissor-kick goal. A brilliant brace from Leonardo Castro [57′, 69′] hindered any rebound from Highlands. At 3-0 away from home was a target too far to scale for them. The Rise and Shine lacked energy to mount any significant fight back throughout the entire game.

Sitting on 38 points, Chiefs have now opened up a 6-point gap at the top of the league standings. Mamelodi Sundowns lay second on 32 points accumulated. So far, both these Gauteng giants have played 16 league matches.
