Sundowns cut Chiefs lead to four points

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) went to a Christmas break with Kaizer Chiefs at the summit of the Absa Premiership league, commanding a 7-point lead.

Upon the return of the South Africa’s elite football league, Mamelodi Sundowns have slashed that “lead” to a mere four (4) points.

Two goals from Bradley Grobler [9′] and Thamsanqa Gabuza Gabuza [61] on Saturday night Jan. 4, 2020 saw SuperSport United defeat Chiefs by 2-1 at Mbombela Stadium. Daniel Cardoso scored [9′] the only goal for the visitors.

Amakhosi are still on top of the log with 35 points after 15 (first-round) Absa Premiership games. Hot on their heels are Mamelodi Sundowns on 31 points after the same number of league matches played.

Sundowns trashed Amazulu FC 3-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on the same day ( Saturday Jan. 4).

The Brazilians opened their new year’s account through a Sibusiso Vilakazi’s 5th minute strike. To kill off the match, Themba Zwane found the net twice (45′, 54′) and Usuthu were obliterated.

Meanwhile at Harry Gwala Stadium Maritzburg United prevailed over Lamontville Golden Arrows by a 2-1 scoreline on Friday night Jan. 2, 2020.
