The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has set aside City of Tshwane resolutions taken by council on Wednesday Dec. 4.

Tshwane city council had advanced and passed motions of no-confidence on the Democratic Alliance’s city mayor Stevens Mokgalapa and council speaker Katlego Mathebe. Both were removed and a new speaker elected and installed from opposition benches on acting capacity.

DA mounted a court case in protest. It succeeded. The matter will be heard on Dec. 17, 2019.

In the meantime, the mayor is on suspension pending investigation by the Democratic Alliance. A curios and scandalous audi-record emerged of Mokgalapa and his colleague discussing unpalatable issues concerning council.

The African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members allegedly banded together in accusing one of DA members of being inebriated. Accusations upon counter accusations took hold. Chaos erupted in council house which prompted DA leader in Gauteng Province John Moody to denouncing the council sitting that followed.

As reported, the City of Tshwane conflict over council leadership is before and will be resolved by the court/s.
