Two first-half and second-half goals last night restored Kaizer Chiefs’ commanding 10-advantage at the top of the log with 31 points post 12 league games. While SuperSport United and Lamontville Golden Arrows, equal on 20 points, impressed on away fixtures, Chippa United collected maximum points at home. A dull goalless draw in Bloemfontein earned both Bloemfontein Celtics and Cape Town City FC a point apiece.
Stellenbosch FC had no answers for the Chiefs’ relentless attack on Wednesday night Nov. 27 in the Absa Premiership match played at Cape Town Stadium.
Amakhosi whacked Stellies by a whopping 4 goals to nil away in Cape Town. Siyabonga Ngezana opened the Chiefs account on the 11th minute. On the 23rd, they went up 2-0 and the prolific Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic lived up to his scoring fame. His brace came on the 73rd minute on the smooth-sailing night to put the Stellies to bed.
From that point, there was no coming back from the host. Neither a consolation goal nor a kick. They were totally flattened! Dumisani Zuma (90+5′) capped the marvelous Amakhosi rout a minute before the final whistle. The Cape Town rookies were obliterated.
Stellenbosch remain 14th on the league table even though Chippa United trashed Black Leopards (3-0) at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last night. They [Chippa] too, did not move an inch from their 16th spot. Leopards are in disarray. They host coach Steve Komphela’s high-flying Golden Arrows in Thohoyandou Stadium on Nov. 30 who got the better of Baroka FC in Polokwane yesterday.
This coming Saturday, the Stellies travel to Pretoria to meet third-placed and on-form SuperSport United who floored Telkom Knockout Cup finalists Maritzburg (2-0) away.
For Stellenbosch, it is only going to get harder with a point differentiating them from Chippa and a mere goal advantage pertaining to Amazulu (laying 15th). Meanwhile, the resolute Kaizer Chiefs FC carry on reaping inspiring results in the league to keep the forceful chasing pack at bay.
