Cape Town City (CTC) Football Club axed their head coach Benni McCarthy with immediate effect.

Following a string of poor results, the club has – in its own Twitter account today – “terminated” his “employment”. His response was that he was disappointed at him shown the door by the club. The only South African to win the European Champions League cup has been kicked out of the CTC area as a coach.

McCarthy took the button in 2017 from the former international teammate Eric Tinkler who quit citing greener pastures at SuperSport United FC in Pretoria. He won the MTN Top 8 Cup in 2018 after finishing as runners-up in 2017.

The Citizens said McCarthy won (only) two out of 18 games and have thanked him “for his service over the last three seasons”.

McCarthy’s assistant coach Vasili Manousakis will stand in on an interim basis until the club announce the new head coach. Leaving win one league win since August, the former Cape Town City FC coach [Benni McCarthy] thanked everybody at the club.
