South African Airways (SAA) has halted and recalled some aeroplanes as a precautionary measure for the safety of passengers in order to carry out maintenance procedures.

The halt of aircrafts comes after South African Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa (SACAA) conducted oversight inspections on airline operators and raised technical concerns over the safety levels of the planes.

Comair run by Kulula.com and British Airways followed suite to ground aircrafts premised on the same maintenance reasons.

The state-owned fights operator experienced disruptions and delays as a result of the recall to comply with SACAA verifications. It’s spokesperson Tladi Tladi said the state airline has introduced “contingency plans to ensure business continuity.”

On its media statements to alert customers, SAA indicated that “there were only four (4) domestic flight cancelations…;” moreover, it has deployed spacious aircrafts to integrate and accommodate affected passengers to offset inconveniences.
