A fixture with Mamelodi Sundowns is equal to a “kiss of death” for the minnows. Masandawana were on a searing gear that out-of-depth Amazulu FC had no urgency to halt.

Amazulu were obliterated by five goals without reply in the Telkom Knockout Cup at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville Sunday afternoon.

The slick Masandawana had the opener (of the floodgates) just before half-time through José Alí Meza (45+1′).

Adding salt to Usuthu festering wounds was a comical own-goal (56′) by Tapelo Nyongo which took the score to 2-0.

The goalkeeper, Neil Mathew Boshoff, came out to sweep a hung long-pass and the defender (Nyongo) headed the ball backwards oblivious of the approaching Boshoff, and the ball bounced and rolled freely into the empty goal posts.

The 3rd and 4th goals were drilled in by nippy Gastón Sirino to put the cup game beyond Amazulu’s reach. The Sirino brace (71′ [Penalty], 78′) was crowned with a “man of the match” award at the end of a one-sided affair in Pretoria.

Mauracio Affonso found the back of the net (88′) and made the tally 5-0. Amazulu were heard no more. Likewise, they won’t be seen anymore in the Telkom cup until next season.

Makhulong Stadium

In Tembisa, Highlands Park and Black Leopards failed to score in regulation time, i.e. the 90 minutes plus 30 minutes of extra-time.

Leopards were culled by 6-5 scoreline on penalties. Thus, Highlands qualified to the last eight of the Telkom Knockout Cup.

Tuesday October 22, 2019 – Chippa host Celtic

To round off the 16-team TKO tournament, on Tuesday (Oct. 22, 2019) night – 19:30 – Bloemfontein Celtic with travel to the Eastern Cape to challenge struggling Chippa United at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, near East London.
