A mob left two men suspected of drug dealing critical and a four-storey building set alight in Pretoria CBD.

The two suspects were allegedly evading arrest by the police and ran into a four-storey premises to seek refuge.

Upon a raid by the police, the two alleged drug dealers came out of the building to find a mob laying in wait for them. They were assailed by a throng of people in Bloed Street, Pretoria CBD.

The alleged drug peddlers were rescued and apprehended by the police before the situation got out of hand.

The suspects were severely beaten and are currently in a critical condition at Tshwane District Hospital, said SAPS Captain Kay Makhubela to Thulasizwe Simelane of eNCA.

When the police left the scene, the alleged “drug den” building was torched.

Last month, a taxi driver was shot dead by a suspected drug dealer after trying to effect a civil arrest and a fracas broke out. The incident lead to a confrontation and gun fire in the same area. Widespread protests, generally in Gauteng Province, followed.

This afternoon there were no fatalities nor other casualties bar the two suspects at the time of this publication.
