Bafana Bafana – South Africa senior men’s national team – game against Chipolopolo [Zambia] has been called off due to the ongoing violent attacks taking place in South Africa.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga told Robert Marawa on his show (Marawa Sport Worldwide) that they cancelled the game because of the “prevailing security concerns” in SA.

The international friendly match was scheduled for Saturday the 7th of September 2019 in Lusaka. The game was going to mark the first official match for the new Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki announced by SAFA (South African Football Association) the past weekend.

It is believed that violent attacks being perpetrated across the country are targeted at foreign nationals and/or shops under their guard trading illicit drugs or smuggling thereof.

At least five people, confirmed the Minister of Police Bheki Cele, have been killed as a result of the chaos engulfing the country, mainly in the Gauteng Province.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan speaking to eNCA said they “condemn xenophobic attacks and looting” taking place in the country. Negotiations are afoot to bring in Madagascar to bridge this gap created by the cancelation of the Zambia game, Jordaan continued. Apparently FAZ informed SAFA that the friendly international game will be rescheduled.

Currently, Bafana Bafana are in camp readily preparing for the 2021 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers coming up this November against Ghana and Sudan.
